Town of Queen Creek Gets a New Library!

by Jamie on March 12, 2008

You might be saying, "A new library?  We don’t have one!"

Yes we do…if you travel North on Ellsworth coming from Hunt Highway you will pass through "town".  You will know this because you have to SLOW way down…on the right, attached to the fire station is a brightly painted little tiny building…this, ladies and gentlemen, is our library.

Now, if you keep traveling North on Ellsworth, once you go through the intersection at Ocotillo, look left and you will see the HUGE building under construction.  THAT is the new library! Img_2019  It is going to be beautiful and will be a big welcome to all of the families with children (and those without) of the area.  No more driving long distances, just like for retail, to find a good size library.

On opening day, which is slated for sometime in October of 2008, the library will hold 47,000 books, dvd’s and other materials.  This is an 18 million dollar project and is the first in the town’s "green building code".

This library will boast new computers as well.  Twenty adult computers, six teen computers and eight for the children’s section.  The children’s section of the library is going to be nothing like you’ve every seen.  It is being funded in party by Fulton Homes and Union Pacific Railroad.  It has been said that the grants from the two super powers will be used for "thematic enrichment programs" which will be based around the seasons.  No other library in all of Maricopa County has a program like what is planned for Queen Creek.

Many meeting areas and rooms will be housed within the building as well.  They are hoping that this will indeed be a meeting place for the community.  I can’t wait for opening day!
